This is particularly true when students begin writing exams that impact on their future or when they enter a new environment such as junior high or high school. Our team chess program is designed to help students develop the social and personal skills they need to be more successful in school - and in life.

Playing in teams instead of individually, students experience first hand the conduct that leads to cohesiveness and success and the behaviours that cause strife and divisiveness. Discussions are held at the end of each round to share the lessons that each player learned and draw the link to everyday life.

The impact of our team chess program is profound. Hidden character traits are rapidly revealed and students learn a great deal about themselves and their teammates. Students exit the sessions with a concrete understanding of the importance of perseverance, self-confidence, efficient communication and mutual respect. The shared experience forges new relationships and demonstrates how to successfully work together.
